Recently, Trump’s plan to acquire Greenland has caused the Danish Prime Minister and Trump to accuse each other, triggering a series of “wars of words.”

According to a report by the Russian TASS news agency on August 21, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen said in an interview with TB2 TV station on Wednesday that she did not want to engage in a "war of words" with Trump over the U.S. President's refusal to visit Denmark in early September and Denmark's position on the sale of Greenland to the United States.

She pointed out, "I do not intend to engage in a war of words, even with the President of the United States. Greenland's Prime Minister Kim Kilsen has made it very clear: Greenland will not be sold. I fully support this." Prior to this, the Danish Prime Minister emphasized that the United States remains one of Denmark's most important allies, and the cancellation of US President Trump's visit after Denmark refused to sell Greenland will not affect the relationship between the two countries.

Frederiksen denies that she should have been more tactful when rejecting a U.S. proposal to buy Greenland, which she previously called "ridiculous." She said, "I think we in Denmark have reacted correctly. We will not close the door, and I think this view is widely supported by the people of Greenland and Denmark. Denmark and the United States need each other. Issues around the Arctic are increasingly important, and we still need to discuss this issue."

Frederiksen emphasized, "When you are close allies and good friends, such as Denmark and the United States, there will always be things that you disagree on. I hope that we can stop this discussion as soon as possible."

In addition, before flying to Kentucky for a campaign event on Wednesday, U.S. President Trump told reporters at the White House that he thought the U.S. purchase of Greenland was a good idea and accused Danish Prime Minister Mette Redrickson of being hostile and inappropriate for refusing to discuss the issue.

Trump said, "I think it's a good idea because Denmark is losing $700 million a year because of it." He continued, "It's just an idea, but I think when they said it was ridiculous, they said it in a very malicious way, full of cynicism. I think the statement by the Danish Prime Minister that this is a ridiculous idea was malicious and inappropriate."

Trump emphasized, "This is done in an unpleasant way, and they can tell me 'no', not to mention that this issue has been discussed for many years. Harry Truman (the 33rd President of the United States) had ideas about Greenland. I have such ideas, and others have as well. They have already begun to consider it in the early twentieth century. ”

Trump said, “What they should do is say that they are unwilling to do this or do not want to discuss this matter, but they cannot say that this is a ridiculous idea, because she (the Danish Prime Minister) is not talking to me, but to the United States of America, and you cannot talk to the United States like this.”

At the same time, Trump emphasized that Washington is not considering the possibility of purchasing any other territory in the world. In response to a related question, he said, "No, we are only considering (purchasing) Greenland."
