She pointed out, "I do not intend to engage in a war of words, even with the President of the United States. Greenland's Prime Minister Kim Kilsen has made it very clear: Greenland will not be sold. I fully support this." Prior to this, the Danish Prime Minister emphasized that the United States remains one of Denmark's most important allies, and the cancellation of US President Trump's visit after Denmark refused to sell Greenland will not affect the relationship between the two countries.

Frederiksen denies that she should have been more tactful when rejecting a U.S. proposal to buy Greenland, which she previously called "ridiculous." She said, "I think we in Denmark have reacted correctly. We will not close the door, and I think this view is widely supported by the people of Greenland and Denmark. Denmark and the United States need each other. Issues around the Arctic are increasingly important, and we still need to discuss this issue."

In addition, before flying to Kentucky for a campaign event on Wednesday, U.S. President Trump told reporters at the White House that he thought the U.S. purchase of Greenland was a good idea and accused Danish Prime Minister Mette Redrickson of being hostile and inappropriate for refusing to discuss the issue.

Trump said, "I think it's a good idea because Denmark is losing $700 million a year because of it." He continued, "It's just an idea, but I think when they said it was ridiculous, they said it in a very malicious way, full of cynicism.
