Reporters learned yesterday from Shenzhen Bus Group that the group will build the country's first 5G smart bus fleet and invest 50 5G smart buses on two bus lines, No. 10 and No. 14. Citizens riding these vehicles can use the ultra-fast 5G network for free for the price of an ordinary bus ticket, and can also try the Cloud VR travel experience.

According to reports, the Bus Group’s 5G smart bus fleet includes two bus lines, No. 10 and No. 14, with 50 operating vehicles, covering an average of 12,000 passengers per day.

Different from ordinary buses, smart buses use Huawei 5G base stations and are equipped with the first commercial 5G terminals - Huawei 5G CPE and Huawei Cloud Management AP. CPE converts the 5G network into WIFI signals, allowing bus passengers to access the 5G network using ordinary terminals such as mobile phones. It is reported that the peak download speed of 5G in buses can reach 1.5Gbps.

The reporter saw at the Lianhuashan Bus Terminal that the "5G" logo has been posted on the front of the No. 14 bus, and there are eye-catching icons in the carriage to guide passengers how to connect to the 5G network. Passengers only need their mobile phone number to apply. The reporter experienced watching high-definition videos online, the picture was smooth, and there was almost no lag in fast forwarding and rewinding.

In addition to being able to surf the Internet at extremely high speeds, download movies in seconds, and play games, the 10-meter carriage of the smart bus can also provide tourists with an immersive Cloud VR travel experience. With the help of the 360-degree camera panoramic traffic eye, when the vehicle passes by a landmark attraction, it will automatically push attraction-related information and realize real-time transmission from the bus perspective, allowing passengers to instantly enjoy the scenery along the way. Real-time high-definition video can also be spliced and rendered in the cloud, so passengers can enjoy an immersive travel experience through the VR all-in-one machine.

The relevant person in charge of Shenzhen Bus Group told reporters that based on the high bandwidth and low latency characteristics of 5G, real-time backhaul of high-definition video for on-board surveillance can be achieved. Combined with big data and artificial intelligence image analysis technology, 5G smart buses will become safer and more efficient.
