Perform regular physical examinations on the transmission oil

The automatic transmission is filled with a lubricating oil called ATF. In addition to lubrication and cooling, its main function is to transmit power between the engine and the transmission. The working temperature of ATF is generally around 120 degrees Celsius, so the quality of the oil is very high and it must be kept clean.

Always check whether the automatic transmission oil level is normal. The inspection method of automatic transmission oil is different from that of starting and refueling. The engine oil is checked in a cooling state, while the transmission oil needs to be preheated to about 50 degrees. The gear lever must be held in each gear for 2 seconds and then placed in the parking gear. Therefore, the normal oil level of the dipstick should be between the highest and the lowest. If it is not enough, oil of the same quality should be added in time.

Generally, whether it is a manual transmission or an automatic transmission, it is recommended to replace the automatic transmission oil once every 12 months or 20,000 kilometers at most. Some models also have operating instructions that say to replace it every 24 months or 40,000 kilometers.

Choosing the correct transmission oil

Generally, when replacing the automatic transmission oil, the screw under the automatic transmission oil is mostly removed to drain out the old oil and then add new oil. However, in this way, only about 30% of the new oil can be replaced, and 70% of the old oil still remains in the transmission. If you change the oil by disassembling the oil pan, you can achieve an oil change rate of 70%, which actually ensures the health of the gearbox. However, the current better oil change method is dynamic oil change, which uses special gearbox cleaning equipment. During the gearbox clouding process, the old oil is fully circulated and drained cleanly before adding new gearbox oil, thereby increasing the oil change rate to over 90%.

Remember: ATF oils are different and cannot be mixed. Mixing ATF will cause damage to the friction plates of the gearbox, slippage of the primary clutch and brake, and in severe cases, the friction plates will be destroyed.
