The academic seminar on "The Iranian Nuclear Issue and the Gulf Situation" was held in Beijing on August 21. Researcher Yang Guang, President of the China Middle East Society and Director of the Gulf Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, attended the opening ceremony of the seminar and delivered a speech. Researcher Wang Lincong, deputy director of the Gulf Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and deputy director of the Institute of West Asian and African Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, presided over the opening ceremony. Also present at the opening ceremony were more than 50 experts and scholars from well-known domestic think tanks, universities and research institutions such as the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Party School of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, the China Institute of International Studies, the World Issues Research Center of Xinhua News Agency, the China Institute of Contemporary International Relations, the Institute of International Relations of the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences, Beijing International Studies University, Ningxia University, Xiamen University and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. In addition, representatives from "People's Daily", "World Knowledge", "Contemporary World", "China Social Sciences News" and other media also attended the opening ceremony.
Researcher Yang Guang, President of the China Middle East Society and Director of the Gulf Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, first expressed a warm welcome to the participating experts and scholars in his speech. He introduced the platform role the center has played in domestic Middle East research and foreign exchanges since its establishment. He said that the situation in the Gulf has recently undergone changes at the domestic, economic, and regional security levels. These new changes await the attention and research of domestic academic circles, and also bring new opportunities to the Gulf Research Center. He hoped that the experts and scholars attending the meeting would continue to support the work of the research center.
The seminar was hosted by the Gulf Research Center of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and the Institute of West Asian and African Studies of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, and was hosted by the "Middle East Hot Issues Research" innovation project group and the "Contemporary Middle East Studies" dominant subject group. The main topics of the seminar are the Iranian nuclear issue and Gulf security, great power competition and relations among Gulf countries, and relations between China and Gulf countries.
The seminar is divided into four sessions. The first session was hosted by researcher Wang Lincong. As guests, the former special envoy of China on the Middle East issue Wu Sike, the former ambassador of China to Iran Hua Liming, as well as professor Zhou Lie, researcher Wang Jinglie, researcher Li Shaoxian, researcher Yin Gang, etc. respectively discussed "the trend of the Iranian issue and its impact on the future pattern of the region." , "The Prospects of U.S.-Iran Confrontation and the Survival of the Iran Nuclear Agreement", "Struggle for Hegemony-Basic Characteristics of the Iranian Nuclear Issue", "Evaluation of the Development Trend of the Iranian Nuclear Issue and the Gulf Security Situation", "Containing Iran is the core of Trump's Middle East policy", "Maintaining a normal attitude towards 'liquidating Iran'" and other issues.
The second session was hosted by Wu Yihong, a researcher at the World Issues Research Center of Xinhua News Agency. Researchers Tang Zhichao, Li Guofu, Yu Jianhua, Niu Xinchun, Fan Jishe and other scholars gave speeches on "the current Gulf security situation and its characteristics", "the Iranian nuclear issue and the Gulf security situation", "the Iranian nuclear issue and the evolution of US-Iran relations", "recent changes and trends in US-Iran relations", "the Iranian nuclear issue and the US Middle East policy", etc.
The third session was hosted by Yu Jianhua, vice president of the Middle East Society and researcher at the Shanghai Academy of Social Sciences. Scholars such as Researcher Tang Baocai, Researcher Tian Wenlin, Researcher Yu Guoqing, Associate Researcher Wang Feng, and Associate Researcher Wang Jian respectively spoke on "The Iran Crisis and the Game of Great Powers in Iran", "Trump's Policy on Iran and the Prospects of the Iranian Nuclear Issue", "Russia's New Strategy for the Gulf", "The New Situation and Impact of the Strategic Game between Saudi Arabia and Iran", and "The Nuclear Issue between Israel and Iran".
The fourth session was hosted by researcher Tang Zhichao, director of the Middle East Office of the Institute of West Asian and African Studies, Chinese Academy of Social Sciences. Scholars such as Researcher Wu Yihong, Researcher Gao Zugui, Professor Fan Hongda, Associate Researcher Lu Jin, Associate Researcher Chen Mo, Associate Researcher Qin Tian and Associate Researcher Liu Dong discussed “ The Gulf is experiencing rapid geopolitical turmoil and China’s diplomatic interaction with the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia."
